Reverb 10: Party.

What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010?

Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans.

~ Shauna Reid

This year a group of friends and I started gathering for Game Night once a month. We’d play Pictionary or Eucher or Celebrity or Wii Trivial Pursuit or LCR or some other random game we weren’t very good at, yet could talk smack about winning like we owned it form the time we came out of the womb.

We drank wine from the vineyards of Tobin James, Justin, Toasted Head, Wild Horse, Greg Norman, Artiste, Francis Ford Copola, Acacia, Ecco Domani, and Barefoot (and that’s just the corks I kept). Chardonay, Cabernet, Viognet, Malbec, Syrah, Shiraz (the Aussie version of Syrah), Petite Syrah, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Granache, and blends of just about every one of those.

We ate cheese; glorious cheese. Soft cheese, hard cheese, sharp cheese, extra sharp, blue cheese, white cheese, yellow cheese, spreadable cheese, sliceable cheese, new cheese, old cheese, favorite cheese, fresh cheese … cheeses from all the lands across the land. Sometimes we even had crackers for our cheese. But not me. Just the cheese for me, please.

Music was typically random, but what I remember is turning several friends on to the likes of one Brandi Carlile. If you haven’t heard her sing, I suggest you get yourself over to Youtube and check this woman out. You’re welcome.

As for the shenanigans, we might as well have been in Vegas at times. Or maybe my memory is just that terrible and I can’t remember a stitch of it, except to say that it was a rip-roarin’ good time. Your choice.

Even vaguely recalling some of the friends and practically-family that I’ve had the privilege to share time with this year, cements the fact that I want more of this in 2011. We didn’t do well with sticking to our once-a-month Game Night plan, but the time we did get together did my soul good. I need more of that.

And so it is.

This post is written as Day 9 of Reverb 10, inspired and created by Gwen Bell (Best of ’09) and her rockingly awesome cohorts. Are you reverbing too? I’d love for you to share yourself in the comments below.

  • What a great idea! Wine, cheese, and friendship are meant to go together. I’m thinking of instituting a movie night once a month or so during 2011, and you’ve inspired me to follow through. Thanks for the inspiration. (I’m a solo cheese lover, too!)
