Note: Every day thru December 31 I’ll be posting from this list. Feel free to join the fun. Just post your link in the comments section so I can follow you, too.

Today’s prompt: What was your biggest belly laugh of the year?

A friend of mine and her girlfriend created a musical comedy show titled, That’s What She Said, last year. This year, it went global. Global in America, that is. Their show pokes fun at the stereotypes of Lesbians, be it fanny packs, plaid shirts, mixed tapes or the ever-famous joke about what lesbians bring on a second date.

It’s that last bit that sent me into one of my best belly laughs of the year. Well, the video they put together, anyway:

It’s been my experience that you don’t need to be a lesbian to get why this is funny. You might need to know one, but if you’re reading this…you do. (Virtual knowing counts, too.)

In all honesty, I hemmed and hawed a little at putting this up. I mean, what if I expose myself as a…shhh….lesbian?! But “Authentic Realities” doesn’t mean be who you think they want you to be. It means be who you are; be your authentic you™.

Which reminds me about who I am. I am kind. I am honest. I am loyal. I am fun. I am lovable. I am compassionate. I am a daughter (or am I if they’re both gone). I am a domesticated partner (I’d rather be a wife, but that’s a whole different subject). I am a woman. I am a friend. I am an inspiration. I am a writer. I am a coach. I am a lesbian. I am a mother (if you count 2 cats & a puppy—I do). I love baseball and cheese and Holmes on Homes and IKEA and reusable bags and my MacBook and remote controls and photo albums and mirrors and risotto and paper shredders double pane windows and running in the park with Jackson and when Sly rests his head on mine when we’re sitting on the couch and google calendar sync and Christmas stockings and fresh air and train rides and family and laughter—you know, the good, hearty belly kind that Gwen Bell referred to in the first place!

So with that…here are a couple other good laughs of the year:
Cute, cute, CUTE!

Oh, the joys of elfing yourself…

(Check back on this one…I just uploaded it to YouTube, and apparently they’re not ready to show it to you yet.) Or just click here to view it at elfyourself.

These are just a couple laughs of the year; I can hardly remember them all. Maybe it’s a good thing that there were so many I can’t remember…

What made you fall out of your chair laughing this year?

    thanks for sharing!

    • Awesome! The “beep beep” makes me laugh out loud every time!

  • Love this! I recently did a production of “As Is” about the AIDS epidemic in the 80's and the majority of the cast were Gay or Lesbians. I loved being a token straight person… and had an awesome time. I miss my castmates!!

I would love to see this musical! I would love to be involved in it!

    • I’ll have to check “As Is” out! I’ll let you know the next time TWSS is in town…they’ve been on the road a bit of late, and just recently did a show in LA. Might be a bit of a drive for you, but I’ll let you know just the same =)

  • Funny video. Lovely, authentic post. I particularly enjoyed your list – who you are is clearly worth knowing 🙂

  • Thank you, Alana =)

  • Wait, what was the joke about the paper shredder?

  • You've chosen a courageous path, naming your blog Authenticrealities and challenging yourself to be wholly authentic in your posts. I find that inspiring and true leadership. The video is funny and edgy. I like that too. Happy to be on Julie's list with you – see you 'round!
